FANCY A
DETOX?
Over the last decade
the word Detox has become synonymous with rich
and famous celebrities such as Carol Vorderman and Kim
Wilde. They seem to shed unwanted pounds instantly in an
apparently effortless stress free attempt to improve their
looks. Many people try to detox, but what is a
detox and can following one be beneficial to your
health?
What is a Detox?

Our bodies
are continually being bombarded with toxins from poor diets,
pollution, alcohol, caffeine, food additives and the air we
breathe. As these toxins build up in our system, any
number of health problems can occur, including weight gain,
cellulite, headaches, lethargy, dull skin, bloating, fatigue,
poor immune system, aches and pains and a general lack of
feeling well and healthy. A detox is basically the
cleansing of the body's internal organs or more
specifically the liver, kidneys and digestive system. The
theory is that by ridding the body of toxins which are found
not only in the foods we eat but also in the air we breath
and every day pollutants then our ability to fully utilise
the nutrients from the foods we eat can be
improved.
Do I need to go on a
Detox?
If you are a
healthy individual who is a normal, healthy weight has a very
well balanced diet who never suffers from lethargy and a
lack of energy, indigestion, poor skin or hair, constipation or
flatulence. If you haven't recently overindulged lets say
after a holiday, a weekend alcohol binge or over the Christmas
break for example then the answer is a definate
NO.
If on the
other hand your diet does NOT CONSIST of healthy wholesome
foods with just the occasional treat food or if you have
over indulged a lot recently then a detox could be the right
way for you to go.
I WANT TO MAKE ONE THING CLEAR AT THIS POINT, A
DETOX IS DEFINITELY NOT A LONG TERM WEIGHT LOSS
SOLUTION
My own thoughts are that a detox is a great
way to cleanse the body over a short period of time
to rid the body of toxins and clear out the stomach and
intestines of the wasted junk that is just sitting around
doing nothing. But should not be looked at as a
solution, instead perhaps provide the catalyst to new
long term healthy eating plan.
What are the side
effects of a detox?
Weight
Loss - you will experience
a rapid weight loss during a detox, but will almost certainly
gain back that weight after a detox if you do not
follow the principles of healthy and balanced eating

Possible Tiredness and lethargy - This
initial phase lasts for 2 or 3 days and is usually the hardest
part to get through. But when you have
got past this point you will begin to gradually feel
rejuvenated and invigorated.
Lack of Nutrients - Some Detox plan
can have a lack of nutrients which may lead to deficiences
and lowered immune function. Some people complain of side
effects such as tiredness, sickness and headaches which is
probably due to the fact that many of the toxins are being
eradicated from the diet. This makes it especially
important to follow a system where nutrient value and vitamin
profile is a major consideration.
Hunger - is a tough feeling to beat, it is
important to ensure that any detox you follow firstly advocates
the drinking of plenty of plain water (herbal teas are an
excellent alternative). Secondly that the foods you are
eating are both toxin free and providing you with an adequate
supply of vitamins and minerals. You should aim to eat raw
foods as much as possible as raw foods are generally full
of vital vitamins and enzymes. Once fresh foods have
been kept for too long or been cooked or processed then
their nutrient value diminishes.
What foods should I avoid on a detox?
During your detox you
should try to avoid wheat products because
the gluten found in wheat is very difficult to digest and
all too often causes bloating and wind

Stay clear of caffeine if possible
as this stimulant can deplete the body of essential
minerals. Be warned however if you a hardened coffee
or tea drinker then you should just reduce the amount you
drink gradually as you will suffer very bad withdrawal
symptoms.
Alcohol is a very problematic food
for your body to deal with. The liver breaks down the
alcohol to acetaldehyde - a toxin - which can harm liver
cells and the brain
Find an alternative to salt. If
possible instead use spices, herbs, white or black pepper,
vinegar or lemon/lime juice
Dairy products can be difficult to
digest because of lactose intolerance for some individuals
which can cause bloating, flatulence and
diarrhoea
Processed foods with additives and
preservatives must be avoided throughout the course of
your detox
Eating out - is virtually an
impossiblity during a detox, so make sure you either plan
not to eat out during the course of a detox or choose one
that only lasts a few days
What are The Benefits of a
Detox?
A well planned
detox encourages healthy habits such as eating
more fruit and vegetables, drinking more water, and
cutting out or down on processed foods. If you
consider the reduction of caffeine and alcohol as well as
creating more awareness about the foods we eat, then the
benefits of a good detox far out weigh the
drawbacks.
Which Detox Do I
Recommend?
Just as I
have searched long and hard for a nutritional company I felt I
could trust that supplied a superb range of high quality low
cost supplements, I have also been searching for the
perfect Detox product...I found it.

I have taken
all the guess work out of it for you so you can buy with
confidence. But the best thing about this
product which speaks volumes about the high quality of
this companies products is the unconditional full money
back guarantee.
The beauty of
the Forever Living Detox is that it gives you a definate script
of foods to eat and a researched and tested system all in one
package.
The meal
replacement drink is one of my favourite products available on
the supplement market. Most people find it difficult to
eat well during their hectic lifestyles and so run in to many
problems because of this. This is the main reason why I am
such an advocate of meal replacements. It is very
important to eat regularly throughout the day every 3/4 hours
in fact, which can sometimes be hard, but also to get the right
type of nutrients...low fat, low sugar with vitamins and
minerals added. A good MRP (meal replacement powder) will
provide this and simplifies the whole aspect of eating
throughout the day.
